Change started with me two years ago...
...when I noticed that my two-year-old twin boys weren't communicating like other kids their age. They would cry, laugh and babble to each other but wouldn't say any words. A program at Rochester Hearing and Speech Center diagnosed the boys and started speech therapy immediately. Now my boys are talking up a storm, just like any other kid their age.
Early Childhood
Research has shown that children who receive the best possible start in life are more likely to achieve their full potential. United Way is working to improve the conditions that affect our children in their most critical years - birth to age five. Your support for the Community Fund is providing Parent Education Programs to help moms and dads develop appropriate nurturing skills and reduce child abuse, and Early Intervention Programs for early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of special needs.
